Improving fish transport trial Article

The transport of fish from hatcheries for on-growing is a critical point in the rearing cycle and, if not carried out properly, it can at best compromise their welfare and at worst lead to significant losses

Ardtoe Marine Laboratory thus undertook a series of trials funded by SARF designed to identify the key constraints to low stress live fish transport. Two of the key factors identified were changes in water pH and ammonia level, and the work thus included investigation of the means by which those water quality changes could be limited.
